VfL Wolfsburg: From Factory Club to German Champions

VfL Wolfsburg has developed from the factory club of Volkswagen’s hometown into one of the most recognisable names in German football since its foundation in 1945. For many years, the club competed in Germany’s lower divisions before earning promotion to the Bundesliga in 1997. From there, Wolfsburg steadily established itself at the highest level through ambitious growth and professional development both on and off the pitch.

The club’s greatest achievement came in 2009 when VfL Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga title. Led by the prolific strike partnership of Edin Džeko and Grafite, the Wolves captivated fans with attacking football and secured the first league championship in the club’s history.

Today, VfL Wolfsburg stands for ambition, modern infrastructure and the Volkswagen Arena. With a strong footballing heritage and excellent facilities, the club remains one of the most recognisable brands in German football. Following a period outside the top flight, Wolfsburg is now focused on one clear objective: returning to the Bundesliga.

The Volkswagen Arena

The Volkswagen Arena has been the home of VfL Wolfsburg since 2002 and is regarded as one of Germany’s most modern football stadiums. With a capacity of around 30,000 spectators, it combines a compact design with excellent sightlines, creating an intense atmosphere for both league and international matches.

Located directly next to the Volkswagen plant, the stadium reflects the club’s unique connection to its hometown and heritage. Modern architecture, premium hospitality areas and short walking distances ensure a first-class matchday experience for every visitor.
